Conjugation patterns

Every Portuguese verb follows one of three regular models (-ar, -er, -ir). The irregularities, in turn, fall into predictable families: learn one and you know them all.

Regular -ar verbs 80

The most productive model: almost every new verb joins this conjugation (falar, falei, falado).

-ear and the "MARIO" verbs 3

e → ei in stem-stressed forms: passeio, passeamos; likewise mediar, ansiar, remediar, incendiar, odiar.

Defective verbs 2

They lack some persons: abolir has no first-person present; reaver has only reavemos, reaveis.
